Paul Smith

Paul Smith has specialised in civil and commercial litigation for more than 30 years.

Throughout his career Paul has been driven by the desire to help clients achieve a resolution to their legal problems. After qualifying and prior to specialising he gained wide experience during a post qualification period Paul describes as a “10 year apprenticeship”¬†working as a general litigation solicitor in all areas of law including crime and regulatory law, divorce and family work, personal injury claims, general civil disputes and debt/insolvency work. This experience has enabled him to acquire a “street wise” reputation and gain considerable knowledge in most areas of law particularly those involving court proceedings or dispute resolution whether for claimants or for defendants.

His main areas of work are now in commercial or business related contractual disputes for clients from all business sectors. Paul also acts for private individuals in various types of civil claims or disputes including compensation claims and rights over land or property.

He has been instructed in various types of civil claims and disputes ranging from small claims involving points of law and legal argument to large, complex commercial disputes.  He is experienced in County Court and High Court proceedings including Chancery and in specialist proceedings before the Commercial Court.

His main objective is to act professionally in the client's best interests irrespective of the size or the nature of the case and in appropriate cases will provide preliminary advice with an initial assessment of the risk/cost benefit of any new matter before deciding to accept instructions and this will usually be done without any charge to the client.


For over 20 years Paul was a partner with Blackhams solicitors in Birmingham. In 2009 he launched his own specialist practice (PJS Law) which was merged with Taylor Fordyce in 2012.


Sport ; watching football, cricket, Formula 1 and snooker (Paul has been known to pot a few),

Charity work

Paul is a director of the Great Midlands Fun Run an annual event created in 2003 which has now raised more than £2 million for numerous charities and good causes .
